Did the "how many Finals losses" begin with Lebron?

To be fair, Duncan was in a much more competitive conference and had to deal with a rival power in the Lakers for a good portion of his career.

This is bron stans new talking point. No one thinks its better to lose in earlier rounds, but if you're good enough to make it to the finals, you're good enough to win it a la jordan and the bulls.
If you lose in the earlier rounds, its most likely because you have a shytty or inferior team. But lebron had #1 or #2 seeds with 61 and 66 win teams losing in earlier rounds. Jordan and the bulls never did that.
Show me the year the bulls were #1 seed or even #2 seed in the east and lost in "earlier rounds". You can't. So stop with this losing in earlier round bullshyt as if jordan and the bulls were losing as #1 or #2 seeds in earlier rounds like lebron. Bulls were losing in earlier rounds as a shytty or inferior team.

I agree. The Finals loss tally is only a criticism when LeBron is compared to other greats.
Also, it started gaining significant momentum after the loss to the Mavs in 2011--primarily because LeBron had an awful series, to the point where you had to wonder was he shook, and ask if these older cats really know how to get at him like that?
Recently, I saw a graphic where it showed that LeBron was the first player to take two different teams to four Finals each. But all I could think about was that if LeBron won most of them then you could legitimately put him next to or above Jordan.
Real talk, people only get down on LeBron because he could've taken the GOAT crown from Jordan.

That narrative started after 2007. You started hearing on the radio "he can never be the best because he's already lost in the finals" from lots of the mainstream outlets. It mostly stemmed from
going on tv and trying to argue that Jordan would've led the 2007 cavaliers to a title.

Yeah it's tough to hold that against Duncan given the superb competition he faced. We can't forget KG's Wolves were no slouches either when they were on their shyt, then you had the Kings, later on the Suns, the Rockets off and on, Clippers, Warriors, etc. Duncan's accolades are definitely accentuated given the difficult road he had to go through every postseason.

The best part is that it's almost always non championship game/series losses that eat at players the most. Denver losing in the divisional round to the jaguars in 1996, the 1998 NFC title game, the sonics being upset in the first round in 1994, Dallas getting beat by the warriors, Manu committing that awful foul on Dirk that ended up costing San Antonio the game, the lakers getting beat by the rockets in 1981 and 1986, Chicago's losses to Detroit from 1988-1990, bird stealing the inbounds pass in game 5. The Charles smith game, Miami losing games 6-7 in 2005 to Detroit.
