I know what you mean but whiteness in the USA is still heavily, ethnically distinct. Italian, Greek, Irish and German Americans are common identifications over simply just "white" american.

That's not what I said. I said it doesn't have to be. Pro-black basically meant pro or proud-Afram..saying you're a proud Italian, German, Irish etc..American is still along the same lines but we don't look at Pan-Europeanism the same as we look at Pan-Africanism for obvious reasons.

That's quite rare and whites are more intermixed than we are. Once the "white" classification became a pass, those ethnic groups mattered a lot less. It's a personal/friendly/by choice type thing...like being in a club. Means nothing more than that and it's definitely not the same as being black.

I was trying to look up ethnic enclaves and ran across this. I guess it does somewhat confirm what I always thought about Southern Whites having a more generic "white" identity
