What a terrible take by Tony Gonzalez. Russ is a hall of famer. He may not be first ballot but he’s definitely getting in and there’s nothing that will change that.
Secondly, the Legion of Boom ended in 2018 yet Russ went 23-9 in the two seasons after they were disbanded. Bad take by Sherman.
The way you gotta look at this, is when did LOB stop being LOB?
The Legion Of Boom run was the greatest 6-year run ever; greatest 5-year run ever; greatest 4-year run ever; and so on. The only debatable thing about them, is are the '13 Hawks the greatest one year defense ever? They have a case but you can definitely make a case for other defenses on a 1-year run.
Once you start totaling the run, they separate from other historically great defenses, and they separate fast.
They were a Top 7 defense for 6 straight years, 2011-16. Right in the middle of that, 2012-15, they were the #1 defense in The League (#7 in 2011, #3 in 2016).
The run ended with the '16 Hawks. But it also started before Russ got there, and they only went 7-9 was Tavaris Jackson at QB in '11, with an elite defense. Unpolished Russ gets there and they gonna to two Super Bowls. When the run ends they only win one playoff game the rest of Russ' Seattle career.
Both sides deserve they flowers.
It's stupid the narrative is Russ played himself out of the HOF, but it’s a matter of if, not when with Eli.
Exactly, and Russ was 10x the QB bytch ass Eli was. Far and away a better player.
And I'll keep mentioning NFL Media's love fest with Stat Padford as a Canton guy when he clearly is NOT, those '11, '14, and '16 Lions playoff teams Padford had were well good enough to win a playoff game and have some sustained success, but this guy did nothing with them besides end the playoff drought and start another
Sherman is one of the 5 best CBs of the past 15 yrs, can't say the same for baby hair
That ain't how you do it, Russ been washed for 4-5 years now, so encompassing the last 15 years paints an inaccurate picture.
His "prime" is his "era", was he one of the five greatest QBs in his era?
You could debate on the margins, sure, because Mahomes came up late in Russ' prime. Brady and Rodgers were great throughout his prime. Brees slipped at the end of Russ' prime, and Russ and Manning's prime never overlapped really.
Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, Brees. Who is #5 of Russ' prime (which I say is 2015-21)?
It's Russ.
Sherman is absolutely one of the greatest of his generation too, thougj.
