But I do find it funny that non-Americans are accusing Americans of ignorance and xenophobia and all this other bullshyt., and yet they're the ones always bashing America and throwing shots at Americans with whatever information, often false and exaggerated, they throw at us

Tbh honest breh most of the "american-bashing" is based on...news. I mean, the very fact that people like Palin was even running for VP is insane. Voting for Bush...twice Having a damn RECOUNT in Florida (can't think of ONE first-world country where such malfunction is possible). The Katrina debacle. Plus you have a mass killing every now and then, highly-ranked officials talking about "legitimate rape", Romney talking about "the 47 %", birthers STILL believing Obama isn't American or is muslim or whatever. Talking about WMDs in Iraq Saddam behind 9/11 . Now let's not act as if we don't have our nutcases here in Europe, but it hardly ever gets that ridiculous or happens at such a high level (Berlusconi for example being a valid exception).

And I don't see what traveling outside of your native country has to do with changing your perspective, because for all of you so-called sophisticated world-travelers, American and non-American, it hasn't made any of you any less pompous, narrow-minded, elitist, and insecure -- in fact, it has made you even moreso.

If you don't see I'm ready to bet you haven't experienced it. And tbh you kind of sound as if having another opinion and being able to talk about other stuff than the country you happen to have born in is "elitist". I talk about France, the US, Italy, CAR and Belgium because those are the countries I've lived in, and with which I still have stong links, how is that elitist? And if you actually had a conversation with those people you're portraying, you're find out something: there are some interesting humble people, and some a$$holes. Just like in any group.

And yet you're the first ones to complain about Americans "thinking they're the best in the world." Guess what? So does every other country! Why is it a problem when Americans think the same way? Why does it bother you non-Americans so much?

France is notoriously hated on by a lot of other Western European countries because they sometimes have this attitude. I heard Portuguese people kind of resent Spaniards for the same reason. Flemish people feel kind of the same towards Dutch people. Happens all over the world, the only thing is that since the US is precisely all over the world and on some "spreading democracy" bs, people react more to that.

If the entire world is on your country's dikk 24/7, wouldn't that make one think that their country is indeed the best? I find it telling how non-Americans get upset and inflammatory when an American takes pride in their country or claims that it's the best, but when a non-American says the same thing, not a fukk is given. The truth does indeed hurt.

Breh get over yourself, people ain't on the US's dikk. Don't mistake liking movies and music with liking the culture/country. Most people I know (and that includes myself) are more than happy to just get here those cultural products and be able to study without getting deep in debt, have good social security, not have the death penalty and lunatics screaming about their right to bear arms, not have religion in the political sphere etc...

What you fail to realize is that it's easy to criticize America because it's the top dog, and unlike most countries, America has no shame in leaving all its dirt out in the open for all to see. Most non-American countries sweep their issues under the rug and pretend that they don't exist, while self-righteously and hypocritically pointing their fingers at America for everything that's wrong with the world.

What dirt are we talking about tho? Has the US ever forgived itself for the genocide of the native americans, Agent Yellow, various assassinations in Latin America, the Tuskegee experiment, invading Iraq for no damn reason, Guantanamo...? Every single country has its "dark chapters" that no one mentions.

But most non-Americans haven't even been to America (if they have, it's reserved to going to the most European of cities, some beach or other tourist trap) let alone left their country, and what they do know of America comes from TV shows and whatever misinformed Anti-American propaganda that their government feeds them. What's the point of having significant ammo when you're essentially shooting blanks? And somehow we're the ones who are arrogant and ignorant?

Again, some people actually read newspapers and follow the news (including american ones). And people in Europe for example travel quite often, that's just an advantage of having a fairly small continent with a lot of diversity. Would be interesting to have a poll/thread about who has gone where here, i'd bet that non-Americans have indeed travelled more than Americans, but that also comes from the fact that the US is huge already. But don't think that all peole just go to NY or SF, people go to work, study, holidays all over the US, but of course Wisconsin and Idaho are on nobody's lists. And actually my ex's sister is married to a guy down in Kansas City, and she's going crazy because they still talikng about "tking the country back", that "it's a sin to have sex before wedding", the husband went from joining some wannabe neo-nazi group to selling cowboy hats, I mean come on breh
