AOL floppies and CDs fell out of every magazine mid 90s, lol.

By time Napster got going in 99 along with stream video on launch.com, cable modems, everyone using AOL instant messenger 8th grade on up...we never used the phone unless it was important or we needed to meet up when I was 16-18.

1999... internet was a fixture.

TBH, no. I didn't even have my own computer until like 2006. Whenever I need internet I went to a cybercafé, and when I think about it I realize it wasn't even that often.

The internet destroyed big record labels and ultimately ruined musicians but you can’t stop that wave. Music is free now

I've been internetting in some form since the late 80's and I can honestly tell you that nobody really saw it becoming what it is today, with 80% of Americans having their faces plastered in their phone all day. I don't think anyone really saw that coming in the 90's.

what were doing with the internet that early on?

Nah they used to make it seem like it was just for geeks and online dating growing up. I probably wouldn’t care for the internet without google

i first used the internet in 93-94.
there were no real search engines back then.
i did not fukk with it again until 97 but now there was a search engine.

that changed the game for me.
as an artist, i could search an image to reference for a project instead of needing to hunt through books and magazines.
i remember artists and designers coming in to speak to my class and they would have milk crates full of reference photos.
they would talk about how important it was to keep a physical library of images to draw upon.

that shyt got thrown in the bushes real quick.

I personally did not see it becoming this big, but when I was a new user it blew the hell out of my mind. The share amount of information available on request had me amazed.

Yup, I was downloading Roms and mp3s in the late 90s, and fukked around on AOL messageboards in the mid-90s too. I remember saying that if they could show videos on the internet, then it would be the new TV. Then YouTube came out and it was :ohlawd:
I had the first MP3 player too, the creative river one. I was like, shyt is the future :blessed:

Also when I bought the first iPhone in 2008 and that shyt hooked up to the internet, I told my Dad that everything had changed. I was like, I got the internet in my pocket, with me at all times. I was like, Dad this phone will change your life. He bought one and was like “son, you were so right. It really is life changing :wow:”.

Now we’re at the “internet of things” where all electronics hook up to the internet. It’s only gonna get bigger and bigger.
as long as there’s no EMP bomb :sadcam:

Watch Halt and Catch Fire for a nice narrative of the history of the internet. :ehh:

For my brehs in the 90's who were using the net, did yall see it becoming this big?

Around 1998 Yes (16 years old) It became a necessity.

Around 2009 ... I was convinced that it would be as apart of our everyday life as showering/eating/basic needs.

Once the smartphone portable internet came into play it was a wrap.

Virtual Reality on the other hand:mjlol: has been and will always be a gimmick.

If i was older back then , i would have invested in up-and-coming Internet websites
but i know there were many that went bankrupt. you would have to be lucky to invest
in the right ones such as amazon and have the patience to hold for nearly 18 years.
