My parents definitely did. My mother passed away when I was 16. And it was just me and my pops as my brothers and all of them were already gone. And he schooled me to so many different things. Of course only in hindsight did I realize it. Especially when I sit and remember. He passed away a few years ago as well.

My mom just imparted good values and general wisdom that is applicable for any generation. "Don't use hard drugs", "Don't get a girl pregnant", "Do well in school", "Avoid credit card debt" etc. Mainly taught me to not be a shythead and a menace to society.

But I learned day to day adult things from either the internet or trial and error. Learned how to cook, invest, do DIY home repairs, build my computer, repair my car, all from the internet.

Someone told me in college that your parents can only prepare you for the world they knew.

Are you limited to preparing your children for the world you "know"?

Unfortunately we will have to wait for someone to invent books before we can read and get to "know" from the experience of others.

Yes, you prepare them for the world by teaching them critical life skills like how to think, how to use common sense. There's a whole world of media ready to brainwash your children into bullshyt. That's why you have to teach them early how to distinguish bullshyt from everything else.

Amazing parents but i think they chose the 90s advice of shielding their kids rather than forcing the world on the them.

Just genuinely good and unselfish ppl, but the world isnt like that.

Hit me hard in college
Thiiiiiiiiiiiiis

A lot of people took pity on me because I was a genuinely nice girl, but I was definitely food. Could’ve been a lot worse. Smh

I remember my college boyfriend said I was so naive that he was worried about me lmao

I was so sheltered. Then the real world hits you at 90 miles/hour when shyt gets real.

I’ll say my people definitely taught us about finances, education, ownership, etc so I’m good on that. But NO STREET SMARTS. Trusted everyone. Could never imagine anyone doing anything bad to me because I would never do anything bad to anyone else. My family is staunchly Christian so even when people wronged them they were cautious moving forward, but basically turning the other cheek, never commenting on the bad deeds of others, but highly critical of the young people in the family.

I would’ve moved way differently when I was younger if I knew how it really was.

If you don't mind me asking did you go to private school or grow up in a really good neighborhood?

The "street smarts" I got came from schools in the ghetto.

your parents definitely didn't teach you reading comprehension or how to read past the headline of news articles.
