Nope. But I’ve been able to use what I did learn from them over the last few years. Not many active lessons but just a lot of observational learning

A lot of people took pity on me because I was a genuinely nice girl, but I was definitely food. Could’ve been a lot worse. Smh

I remember my college boyfriend said I was so naive that he was worried about me lmao

I was so sheltered. Then the real world hits you at 90 miles/hour when shyt gets real.

I’ll say my people definitely taught us about finances, education, ownership, etc so I’m good on that. But NO STREET SMARTS. Trusted everyone. Could never imagine anyone doing anything bad to me because I would never do anything bad to anyone else. My family is staunchly Christian so even when people wronged them they were cautious moving forward, but basically turning the other cheek, never commenting on the bad deeds of others, but highly critical of the young people in the family.

I would’ve moved way differently when I was younger if I knew how it really was.

Im the same way and Im glad they Sheltered me up till I was 16/17....They didnt want me to wind up like my Big Breh who was The "Streetz"One(On top of doing a Jail Bid when I was 13)and just stick to The Schools like My Older Sis.....I kinda learned how to Interact with The Classmates, try to Make Friends etc but I do wish they taught me how to "Trust" and just learn your Who's Who when it comes down to it,but Im not THAT much of an Idiot either and I learned that myself

My parents set me up for success if I’m being honest. I have my father’s work ethic with is why I make good money and live comfortably. The values my mom instilled in me are why I treat people with decency. They shyt the bed on teaching me about women and relationships tho and have been divorced for 8 years… :skip:

I don't think you necessarily have to directly show your kids how to do shyt, but it can be a huge benefit to talk through your day with your kids when you do things. Talking about what you're doing, how you're doing it, sharing your feelings and thought processes with them - that gives them a HUGE step up later in life.

Damn. That's a great idea. I'll implement that.

Yeah, I read about it in a book about human social life and also saw some studies about it here and there. It's supposed to be a big benefit to maturity - kids whose parents talk to them about their real lives (in an appropriate way) end up adjusting to adulthood faster than kids whose parents don't talk to them as much or just baby them.

Also does wonders for their vocabulary and grammar competency.

Some ways yes....other ways no. But they did what they could do. It's difficult being a parent because when u have kids...each child needs a different parenting technique and strategy. I'm also a believer it takes a village to raise a child....it really does.

Yes, you prepare them for the world by teaching them critical life skills like how to think, how to use common sense. There's a whole world of media ready to brainwash your children into bullshyt. That's why you have to teach them early how to distinguish bullshyt from everything else.

Main lesson that needs to be taught is how to see what's the truth and what's a lie. That's going to get you farther than anything. Parents don't need to sugar coat anything in fantasy.
