Just got ONE question.

What Kendrick songs are the ppl going to play years from now similar to Biggie One More Chance, Big Poppa, Hynpotize, Mo Money Mo Problems, Juicy...

See that list?? That an impressive list of CLASSIC HITS.

Kendrick not a hit maker
Problem is in this era, we don't see many classic hits like those at all. We're talking legendary status songs, what classic songs of this decade hold the same weight as those?

Even Drake's best performing hits, one of the biggest hip hop arists of the decade, aren't going to hold a candle to Biggie's classics (One dance his first #1 now God's plan?)

Kendricks songs don't have the "quotables" in this information age where songs get consumed so quickly and onto the next as opposed to years of songs living on the radio. Back then the radio was a striving platform and lack of technology kept everyone a bit in tune. His songs live in other spaces now.

bytch don't kill my vibe made some waves to the point where I've seen the reference in pop culture, other artists works, even t shirts. Alright was used in protests and in pop culture again the album after. I'm pretty sure Humble, his first #1 will be remembered as well. Tying his name to the Black Panther soundtrack was a good move too, successful movie and successful soundtrack adds to the resume.

I think it's just a healthier mindset to stop comparing these eras, one had radio dependency, cassettes, lack of internet to find your own choices and more reliance on word of mouth to find new music.

Today we have algorithms for similar tracks, stream any song you want from anyone at anytime for 1/16 (or some shyt like that) for an album sale. You can find any artist at your fingetips whereas before you were limited to the physical media you had. It's just not the same shyt lol

:takedat: About to finesse Kenny's publishing off him and kill him too
It's a fukked up thing to think about too when you see Diddy in the top 3 most paid rappers. To think how much of Biggie's publishing and royalties must contribute to that over the years, especially with streaming and buying his music because no one stopped for damn sure.

If Big was still alive he'd more than likely be replacing Diddy's spot or somewhere near, just my opinion.

Swimming Pools, Alright, Humble, Love, Loyalty, etc. The longevity of contemporary music has less to do with it being "classic" and more to do with old people always loving the music they listened to when they were 10yo-20yo. Same reason Drake has more "classics" than anyone, and we'll be hearing them nonstop for 20+ years as people our age rock out. Same with Kanye.

People are still playing Nelly songs today breh. Old school hip hop radio stations are slowly becoming a thing, and I'm sure old school streaming playlists will continue gaining steam too. And it's gonna be a lot of Lil Wayne, Young Thug, etc whether purists like it or not lol.

Fucced up part is, Puffy is right.

Kendrick is already "made",

He does give me the same feeling I had about Biggie,

And if he gets shot riding in the whip tonight and dies,
there are some people who will call him the GOAT, paint murals of him, and will celebrate his death every March.

All of this is wrong.

People are still playing 3 Nelly songs. "Hot In Herre", "Dilemma", and "Country Grammer".

NONE of them Kendrick songs you listed got played like those.

...and as you mention, they get played on "Old School" formats. I don't know where you're at,
but where i'm at they play "old school" for one hour at 12 noon and then it's back to business.
