Microsoft’s Xbox Division Head Phil Spencer is speaking a panel at GDC in San Francisco on the future of gaming across Microsoft’s ecosystem, and he shared more information on the improvements DirectX 12 is going to bring to the platforms supporting it.

According to Spencer, DirectX 12 will not only improve CPU performance by up to 50% depending on how a game is developed, as previously announced, but it will also boost GPU usage by up to 20%, as revealed by tests done with Fable Legends.

That’s certainly a nice boost, and it’ll be definitely interesting to see how far it’ll manage to bring games’ visuals on Microsoft’s platforms.

Update: Due to a misunderstanding caused by an interruption in the livestream, the original article mistakenly mentioned that the 20% GPU usage improvement was on Xbox One, but Spencer actually did not explicitly mention a platform, just saying that it’s “on the same hardware.”

They systems been out for a little over a year, and the Cloud's impact on gaming outside of what it does now (Drivatars are a beast and make games like Forza never get boring unlike DriveClub which was never fun)
:camby:thats possible without the cloud. NFL 2k5 did this with the original xbox.

They put a fancy name on it, and that's about as good as it gets in your mind.
What we have in 2015 my nikka, in 2015? 2015 my nikka? Way more detailed statistics that is saved continuously to the cloud, so you can thus live forever in cyberspace bruh. So even when you not playing your avatar or drivatar (kinect sports, forza) still is. Able to play vs your friends, or just random people on XBL. It makes it so when you play those games. Instead of artificial intelligence controlling the opponents it will be the data collected from everyone. So in those games the computer controlled people play like real people do. Makes games more fun and realistic. Its a big deal, and its also something you have overlooked my friend. You seem to be a little... detach'd, from whats going on?

The data mining needed to pull this off really doesn't require the cloud as a necessity, I'm sure it helps.

I'm sure the Drivatar is a more advanced algorithm and requires more data and processing however I highly doubt it is a feature that could not be pulled off without the cloud too.

What did I say that was false meach?

Did NFL2k5 not do these things?

How much computing power do the cloud servers provide for the Drivatar exactly? How much information per player is stored on those servers?

Is it too much for the console to handle locally? I don't know the answers to these things. I just know NFL2K5 created AI profiles based on your playing tendencies that other players could play against. Facts.

Sounds alot like Drivatars to me. I'm sure given CPU power, high speed internet, and high power cloud servers the Drivatar an edge by a large margin. Never said it's not more advanced.

PS4 asked what exactly did it do in reference to NFL2K5 and I explained what it did in NFL2k5.

These are interesting features. My main point was NFL2k5 did have AI profiles you play against. Clearly the number crunching while you're offline makes the Drivatar more advanced. This articles also says it would be possible on the local CPU it would just take a lot longer, clearly.
