Perhaps the way is to learn as effectively as possible how to mass produce popular products cheaply and focus on building things that can be easily built. Also: investing in Chinese knowledge be it by hiring someone who is very well-versed in how the Chinese work OR by going there (harder) could help.
And indeed, they would have to be able to fly out the product. At this moment at least it sounds that beating China at their own game is hard, you're right.
Haven't touched on something that is rampant in African countries apparently that is not something you hear about often about China: corruption. To what extent do you think that is holding African countries back in this race?

I'd lump corruption in with tribalism as the biggest cancer in Africa. A lot of outsiders don't realize in many African countries, power struggles between tribes is a huge issue, sadly.

They still identify strongly with their tribes, and are willing to let that blind them from the rampant corruption of their governments just as long as 'their' side is sitting in the palace doing the looting
Sadly, there isn't much time left for them to get their shyt together. They're about to quadruple in population in only 80 years. Countries like Niger with pop. 24M today are going to be over 200M in 80 years. It's going to take nothing short of many miracles happening in the next couple decades in Africa for it to not be a hell on earth soon with all those people and not enough infrastructure, health systems to prevent pandemics, jobs.
