Disney’s new movie ‘Strange World’ features their first-ever openly gay teenage character. And he’s black.

What is the story on that because my kids loved frozen and Let it go was huuuge. Didnt know it had a LGBTQ push behind it too
it didn't have an agenda but a lot of people thought it did when it came out.
Some people thought Elsa was gay and her powers were an allegory for coming out
so the song let it go was considered a coming out song to the LGBT community.
the reason this works is because you'll only feel that way if you're gay. if you're not it's just a song about her using her powers for the first time. so it flies over kids heads
here are two articles from 2014 that discuss this
Outside the film, Let It Go is also a coming-out anthem for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people: “Conceal don’t feel, don’t let them know/ Well now they know!” The lines “It’s funny how some distance/ Makes everything seem small/ And the fears that once controlled me/ Can’t get to me at all” could almost be from an It Gets Better video. “I was really excited to write an anthem that said, ‘Screw fear and shame, be yourself, be powerful,’” said Anderson-Lopez.

and then one in 2019 saying they should just have Elsa be gay which I think they shouldn't

Disney works best when the homosexuality is an allegory IE frozen and the let it go song
they get the same dollars too
but we have to remember that this movie was poorly marketing and might just be bad
Allegory is dead with all these fanfic writers in the game now

Everything is so heavy handed and on the nose now

Exactly, it's why films like Moonlight, Brokeback mountain, bird cage, rocketman, and a few other films had box office success. I think they need to realize you just can't just make marketing about gay characters or add gay characters for shock factor because that doesn't work. I think they need to realize LGBT community is a very small group and needs to appeal to the general audience
Pretty much. A good story always has a place

Notice in all the years the Wire was on nikkas wasn't trippin on Omar like that, shyt he even had fans

Seems to have way less to do with there being gay people in the movie and more to do with it sucking, Disney knowing it sucked, and Disney still going through with a theatrical release to meet potential holiday demand. This should have been a Disney+ exclusive.

To me it also highlights just how much money is being wasted in the streaming era. Netflix could likely make 200-300mil simply by putting Knives Out in theaters for an extended period of time. Instead they're doing a limited theater release and hoping that convinces more people to return to Netflix. Amazon spent massive amounts on LOTR/Rings Of Power and it doesn't seem like the show has had good legs. And of course Disney basically has to hope that Avatar 2 grosses 2bil in order to make a profit. In short, lots of insane decisions and money being set on fire.

Disney is bringing back their old CEO and think that will fix things. Maybe it will, creatively. Maybe not. One thing is clear to me: they don't think the "woke" stuff is the problem, and I think they're right on that. They've gotta fix costs in general, and how streaming factors in to all of this.
Iger is the reason for all these issues in the first place

Chapek is a convenient scapegoat for all parties involved but 2 years ain't enough time to make the mess that currently exists. A lot of this shyt was already in motion

And sure costs is an issue, but nikkas gotta stop playing dumb about bad work and why it's bad:pachaha: The gay kid was a marketing tool, and this "look we got a gay person" marketing is not working.

And that's only one facet. Disney's issue is quality control

I had to go back to @IsThatBrothaMouzone? 'S post.

Sure...gay Black Men deserve representation...but why is it when it comes to representation Black LGBT folk are overrepresented in the media? Where are the white gays at?
:dame:

But real tal....there has been an agenda to neuter and effectively castrate the Black Man in regards to how he is seen by the public in the lens of white supremacy

Like he said before, the message they want to send to young girls of all races are...White Men are the ultimate men...Black Men are Gay/Bisexual/Asexual and should only be seen as friends and women should not pursue an intimate relationship with Black Men.

Also, white society loves to correlate being Black with being Gay (they are not the same) because White and Straight is the "default". They won't say it explicitly, but they do.

All these shows be forcing this gay shyt. Those gay sex scenes too :scust:

It only seemed natural on Game of Thrones. These other TV shows make it so forced and unnatural and gross.

The movie cost more than Spider-Man to make. Had an up 100 million advertising budget on top of that. And it looks like your typical straight to Disney plus movie with barely no advertising. The only way any of this makes sense is that somebody’s stealing money and the “first gay thing” is a planned distraction while they laughing a the way to the bank.

I will check it out when it comes to streaming in a few weeks.

True, Iger is fully on board with the politics/values wave. He doubled down this week during his first discussion with staff since returning. I don't think that's the problem though. That article says that Chapek took a lot of decisions out of the hands of creatives, creating a lot of top down system where bad products were greenlit. That could all be cap, as you said he could be the scapegoat. But given his history of reducing costs and not prioritizing creatives I can buy the idea that he was the problem.

I don't think the inclusion of gay people or women is the issue. It's that Disney often has no interest in giving these characters any role beyond advertising diversity on social media. They trot these characters out and get hundreds of thousands of likes and RTs on twitter. Bigots gonna be mad no matter what but I think most normal people would have no issue with well crafted, multi dimensional characters who happened to be gay, women, etc. As long as Disney is rewarded for what they're doing they're gonna keep doing it. I'm not an MCU guy, I've only seen two of the movies (first Thor and one of the Thor movies) but it seems like folks are getting annoyed with this stuff. There seems to be way more focus on blindly defending Disney and calling people racist/sexist/homophobic than anything else. Most recently with the Shang Chi guy (or whatever it's called) attacking Scorsese and Tarantino and insinuating they were racist for daring to shyt on Disney.
