I agree with most of what you're saying and I believe Melo can still carry a team when he wisens up and adjusts his game. The same thing happened to Nique later in his career but he switched up his game too late because the pieces in Atlanta had already been moved for the most part. The Nique\Carmelo comparison is spot on.
I also think the biggest mistake that NY made was thinking that Amare would be an anchor\franchise piece for their organization. Every one in D'Antoni's system in Pheonix looked better than they actually were, and too top it off, Amare's knees were already suspect.
With that being said, the Woodson needs to make sure that Amare gets the bulk of the touches because quite frankly, if Amare aint scoring, he's borderline useless because he is not going to contribute in any other aspect. No Boards, No D, Nothing
