just doing some research. Atlanta is the black mecca and is a diverse city but how diverse is its black population? for example NYC metro has a lot of West Indians and Black Hispanics and DC metro has a lot of Africans

so in Atlanta (and its suburbs), is there a diverse population of blacks or is it mostly "African-Americans". also do black Hispanics, West Indians, Haitians, Africans etc tend to live in separate neighborhoods?

I did an interview with this Ph.d student from Indiana who is doing a project on the diversity in the black population here in Houston. Pretty interesting. Basically wanted to know how different groups in the diaspora perceive each other. She said there are already books and studies done on the black diversity in New York and the Northeast, but never the South... which is why she picked Houston with its largest African population and sizeable West Indian community.

yeah there aren't many sources out there for black populations. if you are research whites, asians, or hispanics you can find country of origins easily straight from the census

I can't imagine it being nearly as diverse as New York. But do you really consider all Dominicans black or just the ones who are more or less indistinguishable from African Americans in physical appearance?

most Dominicans are black but not all; according to the census tho Dominicans are the most likely to check "Black Hispanic" out of all the hispanic groups despite their c00nism

im thinking with all the migration to Atlanta from places like Detroit, New York etc. you'd see a rise in Caribbean and African populations especially Caribbean

yeah eventually we might see that but for now I view Atlanta as being solidly African American

Haitians, Somalians, Nigerians, West Indians, Jamaicans, Dominicans, Ricans.

By far most diverse place for Blacks in America.

I grew up in Brooklyn, and one of the things I missed the most was being around my carribean bredren dem.

Atlanta has a pretty large Jamaican population. When I go out I run into at least a couple weekly out here.

Met a lot of African cats too...good friends with cats from Nigeria and Tanzania

One of the baddest broads I ever did see was from Ghana. She ain't give me the ass though

There's a lot of carrib cats out here. I think they stay out in the Stone Mountain area mostly (that's where a lot of the reggae spots are at out here).

Nope. NYC has very defined pockets but not much diversity imo.

Crown Heights- Caribbean and some Africans
Harlem-Dominicans and some Africans
BX/LES-Ricans

No East Africans, not many Africans in general (Nigerians for example), and the African American community has moved South.

DC, ATL, Houston THEN NYC. I heard Boston was big too.
