i got a feeling rocky was signed when that shyt dropped.
He was definitely signed.
fakkit ass nikka is a plant just like most of these dudes.

I didn't know about industry plant stuff back then but I knew something was going on. I kept seeing his name on blogs and whatnot to the point where I went and checked for the song they kept hyping up. I literally thought I would be blown away by what I was going to hear. (lol I really did) It was alright at best. Whatever he had going on definitely wasn't organic. I don't remember the name of the song but it wasn't some undeniable hit record. It just sounded like he was biting the Houston wave that was still poppin' at the time.i got a feeling rocky was signed when that shyt dropped.
The problem is that alot of times there is no business to begin with. Two broke dudes come together and make art out of the love. Let's say a free mixtape. Next thing you know it takes off and the industry wants to sign who? The artist or the producer? THE ARTIST! The producer is then left out of the equation while the artist blows up.I don’t know what kind of arrangement they had but yeah, dudes need to stop working on handshakes and get their business in order.
These nikkas is not your bros or your friends.
It’s all business.

I totally agree, but here's the problem: Rocky went to established producers to appeal to the average so-called hip hop fan who wanted that watered down shyt. Kinda like how y'all were hyping that 1 Train mediocrity (produced by Hit-boy) while previously shytting on Live.Love.ASAP. Fans of Live.Love.ASAP wanted a continuation of Live.Love.ASAP on a bigger platform. I couldn't wait to hear Clams/Beautiful Lou/Ty Beats/SGP on radio. But it didn't happen because most of y'all love that generic shyt.
That to me is the real discussion. How a new producer can give you a creative unique sound and still lose out because you/your label wanna cash out on the next release.
I disagree. That's not fair at all. In fact, having your attitude will kill meaningful collaborations in future. When you're starting out, you often have to give people stuff for free or near free to get things going. You should be compensated fairly for it if it starts poppin.
producers are carrying rappers like never before. Producers have always carried rappers but this era's on a whole other level.

ASAP Rocky Signs to a Major Label
Because it was announced he was.
That's what created most of the hype for his mixtape.

Facts, i remeber this was late 2011 or sumn, purple swag did numbers, peso just dropped. Then the 3 mil blog posts and mixtape dropped all within like 2 monthsHe was signed before thatIt was common knowledge.
In fact, the marketing was "who is this kid Rocky who just got signed for 3 mil?" This was at least a month before Live.Love.ASAP came out, if not many months. I'm not even sure the video for "Peso" was out yet. If you read the reviews for Live.Love.ASAP by 'internet tastemakers', the vast majority of the reviewers were talking about Rocky's deal. Everyone knew about his deal.
The artist being signed is actually the issue because it's the labels saying "yo, this is just a mixtape so we aint paying". And the producer decides to work with the artist because the artist is signed (which means there will be some money made somewhere and there is clout), then the label decides to release the music and the producer ends up feeling fukked. This is exactly what the Shabba producer was talking about.
y'all stay forcing it. Rocky never pretended to be independent while signed as a way to boost his project - that's what a plant does. The first time I heard about Rocky was when the media announced he had a 3 mil deal or was about to sign for major money, and people were like: "who?!" Purple Swag may have been the only record out. Peso might've been out. But I'm 100% sure the deal stuff came before Live.Love.ASAP debuted.
These dudes is shytposters. Always trying to force the 'plant' label outta jealously.
We all knew he was signed before the mixtape came out. That was the point
In fact, it was refreshing to see someone keep it a 100 and just release the music so it speaks for itself.
when u not that bighow many times will dumb nikkas refuse to sign contracts before doing the work? Can't feel sympathy
