This is right around the time I was heavy into mixtapes and they were much easier to find online by that time since tons were getting ripped and internet connections were much faster. Alot of Clue, Whoo Kid ( I think he was still carrying Stretch's crates at this time lol)

We didn't have any eastcoast mixtapes prior to the Internet unless someone sent us something or you had visited out there. Kaodik from :hamster: NYC poster... literally mailed me mixtapes he had ripped and put them on CDs for me.

Yeah..I agree this was the last time Clue really shined his brightest...Kay Slays Street Sweepers would soon dominate the mixtape scene doing what Clue was doing but every week(sometimes twice a week)...

Yea Kay Slay started dominating the scene around 01/02 when he use to drop double/triple disc mixtapes. And him being the first DJ to have Jay's Takeover live at Summer Jam and world premiering Ether gave him the mixtape crown.

Right before that it was the Alpo interviews. And this was before the Game Over VHS hit the streets. Those Alpo interviews is what had me looking at Kay Slay like "who is this guy?"

But man o man...Clue had it on lock in the mid late 90's. I remember when No one knew what Clue looked like.

Yea I do recall him having snitch ass Alpo on his tapes. From 89 to 92, Kid Capri was the mixtape king. Then from 92 to 94, it was Ron G. Then 95, Doo Wop had the crown. Then from 96 to 00/01, Clue had it. 01 to 03 was Kay Slay. Big Mike had a lil run in 04 but after that, Drama had Gangsta Grills then the internet officially took over everything.

Green Lantern had a moment as well around the same time Big Mike was doing his thing. I remember when Kay Slay and Mike were cool one minute then Kay Slay one day said he slapped Big Mike from one end of the street to the next and Big Mike soon faded to irrelevance in NYC.

Doo Wop had the Bounce Squad with PMS and Snagglepuss. I always said that Canibus was the new version of Snagglepuss because they shined the brightest on mixtapes but never could transistion that shine to actual records. Snagglepuss was that dude who you couldnt wait till his verse came on because he always had the guaranteed quotable just like Canibus when he was on a track with others. First time I ever saw Uneek from PMS was on that Big Kap song "Ladies In The House" I remember thinking "Ok she sounded like she might be ugly but she the baddest looking one....She's badder then lauryn"
