Money breh, why spend my money when i can spend yours...and make my own money?

Merchandise, Tyler makes a killing off the OF Merch, so does Wiz with that Taylor gang clothing....you'd be surprised at how many people are :whoa: about buying a $12 CD, but will buy a $25 T Shirt at your show or from your Online store.

Sponsors... no way in hell as an indy artist are you gonna see Reebok,Adidas,Beats,Microsoft,Sprite,Pepsi,Ciroc,GM etc. type sponsors

you think if Tyler the Creator wasn't backed by Sony, he could get Pharrell and Erykah Badu on his album?

how you gonna afford to work with some of these dudes, when their asking prices are more than your whole album cost to make?

yeah, albums aren't selling... but there were 1.4 billion digital singles sold last year...so obviously somebody is making money.

y'all acting like major label deals are the boogeyman:heh:

I don't think their the boogeyman I just think in this time people aren't really buying music like that. We can agree to disagree.

. . no, you two can't disagree to disagree

1. This is The Coli . . that means I wanna see bloodshed

2. There's legitimate statistics and numbers to back this up - you're wrong breh

mac dre was before the internet was poppin :beli:

Well isn't that just a grand observation :leostare:

Too bad though, he obviously had film production experience with Treal TV so he definitely would've had what it took to put together a great music video

Drake and Wayne have a great chemistry together.
And you can tell he learned from Wayne's style early on the YM days.

On top of that, he's had hits with multiple acts he might not would have had otherwise had he signed to an Indy.

And he's had video exposure, he's had great production, etc. Most of this is not feasible without the backing of a major.

Think about all those hooks Drake was on early in his YM days. It helps to be a part of a crew like that.

Like I understand the promo merchandise etc. Sales from different stuff besides music and all that. I guess I just don't like the business part of it. Its so much good music coming from artists that don't have a major deal. But when they get one everything changes. Their skill level and ability to keep up with chart topping singles to stay relevant is more important than the quality of music they put out. Im not mad at any of them for getting money etc. Its just a shame that so much talented artists have to repeat the same patterns as others to up hold a image. I use to like def jam cash money ruff ryders aftermath etc Back in the day because they had their own sound. But now almost everyone sound the same. Im not a hater or whatever just lookin at it from the outside.

You were born in 83?

It's time that I tell you this, don't begin your sentences with "Like"

If I was a rapper I wouldnt sign to a major until I'd done my own thang - Built a core fanbase and local or regional buzz. Artists gotta put themselves in a position in which they can bargain their contracts with the majors. Its not easy but its the only way to go foward nikkaz.

Funny seeing people say Jeff is out of touch. He's been touring NONSTOP for damn near 30 years.

So many "independents" have Major Label funding and resources. That's been the new way to do things marketing wise. They always know people re stupid. Make something look grass roots and indie while there's all these unseen moving parts.

Jeff is out of touch with the way things work now. That mixtape didn't just make it to radio and get spins cuz it was "hot" or "buzzing'. No one would even know who Drake is if the P.R people and marketing folks ain't get a check, then the radio folks get a check.

It's 2013 Jeff, not 1993.
