How is it try hard?
To me it's growth as a man. You start off thinking shallow and selfish about life, then you live life and learn your thinking was wrong.
Its the sort of fake-deep shyt you say to try to impress people who don't know any better.

Cause merely linking the two in a sentence doesn't mean one precludes or necessitates or even is related to the other.
He's trying to play off the fact that his fans are pseudo-revolutionary wannabe-stay-woke types by trying to inject as much "black issues" in his music as possible. And none of it fits together.
The two issues are connected personally for all of us.
We have our own perspective and motivations. I.E. Making a living and taking care of our family.
But there's also the overall plight of all human beings and in this case our group, black people in America.
It's easy to get lost in the former, while not giving any thought to the later. It's something we all struggle with, and I thought that line encapsulated that internal struggle perfectly.
There's no reason for me to believe he's being disingenuous, he's always talked about stuff like this, and he's been active in real life outside of just his lyrics.

Look. If he wants to mention it, thats fine.
But the construction of the line is low-hanging fruit and utter bullshyt.
Like even the REALEST dudes wouldn't say some dumb shyt like that.
"Aw man, I hate spending money on my mom cause nikkas is dying"...like...bruh, stop trying so hard. Wait until the next bar or something. It just tells me how out of touch this dude is.
NO other artist would do something that corny.
In rap music people say things that wouldn't actually work in a normal conversation in order to paint a picture. It's about presenting a particular thought pattern.
And here you are misrepresenting what he said. He never said anything about feeling bad about spending money on his mom. He said at one point in his life he thought having money was the way to avoid heartache, until he realized that it's much deeper than that, and your happiness can be taken in a split second.
