Am I the only Houstonian or Texan annoyed by all of these suburban watered down gentrified versions of Screw music that been popping up left and right on the internet for the past decade?

First there was witchhouse.

Which flopped.

Then there was "future screw"

Which flopped.

Then there was vaporwave.

Which flopped

Then there was seapunk

Which flopped

And now there's this slow and reverb shyt.

Which is definitely gonna flop soon as well.

All I see here is a bunch of failed beat makes trying their hand at slowing down songs and maybe adding few effects with some purple tinted computer or anime/cartoon visuals, but don't actually wanna get into the chopped and screwed, because they're not skilled enough to do some real mixing & hit them chops & echos without fukking up the song.

Witchhouse was garbage, but I liked vaporwave. Vaporwave seems to have died out pretty much tho. I never heard seapunk before.

I actually like slow + reverb tho, it goes well with a lot of current hip hop out there, especially playboi carti.

Some people don't like to hear, it but I'll keep saying it until I'm no longer breathing. DJ Screw is the greatest DJ of all time.

In terms of innovation and creativity you'll be hard pressed to find any hip hop djs on his level when you're talking about purely mixing(bounce and bass djs went into a lot of original production stuff added to their mixes, which were mostly recycled soundbite samples).

Absolutely, I just hope all of screws tapes are remastered one day. The sound quality isn't the best on a lot of them.

I feel like when you take the chops out it does a lot to water down the genre more than the absence of any other technique, because the high risk high reward nature of the chops is central towards the transformation of these pieces giving them new perspective, not to mention when combine the chops with echos or reverbs and such.

It also says a lot about the skill level of the dj as well, because we all know that some off beat bad chops can completely ruin a piece more than bad use of the other techniques, so a lot of novice djs only use the chops sparingly or not at all.

A bad chop sticks out like a sore thumb, more than a bad echo, scratch, or rewind or something. I easily notice them on the occasions that even some good screw djs make them. But, finely timed chops are what make this genre as enjoyable as it is.

44 bricks...acre shaker
The Ridin Dirty tape with UGK and Dat Boy Grace was removed from Apple Music :mjcry:
i explained the jive ugk situation be4...

dj screw put the tape out be4 the acutal album dropped...its actually 2 versions of the rydin dirty tape...the og copy was all of the instrumentals of the album..with bun grace n pimp showin ass on it..

then its the version mostly everybody had with 1 side flow n the other songs from a list..

the og ..somehow ended up in jives hands..n they sent screw cease n desist letters,,pimp went off..so he made sure money botany boys ate... screw ate...and he was featured on the album cover..

3-2 got 100% of all publishing for one day...it was his song...rap-a-lot was sittin on it...3-2 got it...n sold it to pimp...3-2 got a check every quarter until he died...

I feel you on the point about chops, and I agree. However, I feel like younger generation just isn't exposed at all to anything DJ related like chops, scratches etc so incorporating that into slow + reverb would be jarring to the younger audience that it's aimed at.

Man its so hard to listen to other DJs. Other than Chopstars and Watts, I can't do it. And even then, it ain't blended or as diverse as Screw shyt.

His shyt was so cold it has nikkas roofing they hoodoo back in the gap. Had dents in the Oldsmobile when chopped No Limit Soldiers
