- Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Speak on it. People don’t talk about the fact that the “I quit” mentality in many of these gentrified areas. Every black location should stay black. If you see gentrification coming along then every person should looking to upgrade their life to save the community.Black folk are still the majority overall and especially in Central Harlem (61%) as of the last census. Overall the picture looks bleak though. Black folks in Harlem look down bad.
Aging population, a lot of grown men on corners not doing shyt, youngings on bullshyt, black old money long gone, black professional class not large enough. Its looking like a future where black Harlem is relegated to the projects. The African immigrants and the black gentrifiers are probably not coming at a replacement level.
I think DC is worse though. Harlem is a safe place compared to DC. DC is at a genocide level and gentrification that is pushing DC locals to PG County is leading to "black flight" for the middle and upper class into Charles County.
Get a trade, get a degree for a good skill or be an entrepreneur so you can survive gentrification.
White folks realize that gentrification is the best way to take a black community because they know black folks will just get up and leave quickly.
