She was trying to inject a logical approach versus maintaining an emotional exchange between the two parties, which may go no where because both parties would just focus on trying to get their emotional points across

Versus listening to the other person, making sure you understand how your actions were interpreted by other folks, then the same should be done by the other party. All of this self reflection is done, while maintaining a perspective on the past, current, and future relationship. DMX had his sons whole life to have a heart to heart, listen to him, and be good father. He failed. Thats why she was there. And you don't just tell your fam your love them.. you show them.
