Grew up with in my house. White rice, liver , gravy and onions.

yup. Staple in my house growing up as well. I actually liked it a lot too. Haven’t had it in ages tho.
I’m Puerto Rican. I remember eating this all the time as a kid. I remember it being kind of a poor mans dish. We had it with white rice and red beans. I wouldn’t mind having some today actually.

yea it’s definitely a lower income dish. Matter fact, we had rice with everything growing up because it was so damn cheap.

Liver, chicken, pork chops, hamburger you name it. :pachaha:

I have it once in a while especially if I’m at an old school Jewish delicatessen (which I love). Typically I’ll get a pastrami on rye with a smear of chopped liver.

Chopped liver with onions was certainly more popular among the silent generation and baby boomers but I don’t see too many people having it nowadays outside of Jewish people, really old folks, and people that still eat at Jewish delis. Although, it’s still on the menu at many private clubs I’ve been to but I think that is just Jewish influence.

My man, I still have white rice with a fried egg and ketchup like it’s nothing. Some of those old flavors never leave you. White rice is king breh. That’s the ultimate filler item. Cheap ass hell, tastes fantastic and you can feed an army with it.
Where you from? Do ya’ll eat fried plantains? That’s another major staple that goes with everything almost.

I’m from the south so a lot of us aren’t as up on plantains as ppl from New York are due to all the mult cultural influences.

I didn’t discover plantains until I dated this west Africa girl. I fell in love with ripe plantains, jerk goat, ox tails, and rice made with coconut milk.

Breh! Dry/tough liver is straight basura :mjlol:
I gotta get my mom to teach me how to make it right.

I wouldn’t dare try to make that shyt right now and I got a real solid cook game... my grandma had that shyt down to a science.... I remember as a lil kid going to the cow man and getting them joints on day one the cow was butchered, and I’m sure that made a huge difference on how they tasted... my uncle, who could’ve been a chef, can’t cook that shyt right either so I don’t feel bad... but I wouldn’t mind having some fire ass liver and onions right about now.. real talk

absolutely.... we still had guys that specialized in raising/butchering and selling specific animals.... I’m technically:flabbynsick: ..those type of operations weren’t regulated and would be shut down and prosecuted in today’s times... when those men got too old and had to shut down shop... my Grandma kind of got off cooking liver on a consistent basis because she felt like beef liver had to be cooked within a certain amount of time after the animal was killed... :manny:
