My coworker was talking to me about the Africans we work with and she said that when I first got hired she thought I was African when she saw my name (Nigerian descent on my father's side. He ain't shyt though :martin:). When she saw me on my first day, she said she was surprised I was "just a nikka". She described African features on some :mjpls: and was like American blacks just have a specific look that even foreigners can identify with before hearing your accent. I know I can usually spot Africans pretty easily but that's only because growing up some of my boys were African with African parents, just born here. They still have the features just not the accent. My mother is from Boston with deep family roots in D.C. so she's full Black American and that's where I got the genes to look "American". Is there any truth to this?

Nah...It's more of a certain swagger.

When im abroad i can typically spot them in a crowd with ease. Just the way they carry themselves. The U.S. is diverse enough that you cant pinpoint them on looks alone.

It's just like when I say while I love Haitian women I usually cant date those Haitian women who were born and/or raised in the U.S. They say they want a Haitian man but what they really want is a black american man with Haitian sense of manners who speaks kreyol and that knows haitian culture. They still want that black american swagger and sense of self confidence tho because that's what they're used to and see on TV and that their girlfriends talk about. I learned that with at least 2 of them that I dated here.

Basically typical women "want their cake and eat it too" type shyt:manny:

There's alot of variation in AAs because we are so mixed up genetically. But you can totally tell a UK breh, from a AA from a West African breh....in my opinion :manny:

I'm African American but I get told I look like I'm not from here by everyone. Women, men, everyone. I have Muslims randomly say As-Salaam-Alaikum Or ask if I'm muslim. People ask me if I'm Jamaican or hatian (a lot). Had a lady randomly say I look like I'm from Ghana. I do get it tho, people say it's my cheek bones:dame: (actually had the owner of a company I work for comment about my facial structure:patrice:). I just wind up saying I'm black and I don't see a difference (between blacks because even in africa, we vary:salute:)

tribal.lines get cooked in the gumbo.pot over here*

No. Black people are just native to the American continent. That is why black folks in America look different than Africans. Same reason black folks in Papau New Guinea look different then black people from Africa as well.
