You seem to be flip flopping as to why Beyoncé lost and Bruno won, when it’s essentially the same situation this year as it was in 2015. Everything you said about Bruno’s album practically applied to Bey’s self-titled.
So, I need you to further elaborate.
Sometimes that can happen at the Grammys though, particularly when votes are split. It makes way for a dark horse candidate to win.
I remember back in the day Steely Dan won over Eminem. Most people didn’t even know who Steely Dan was. Only reason I’d heard of them is because my mom used to play one of their songs all the time during my early childhood. But most people were like “Who the f-ck is Steely Dan?” Another example is that one year Herbie Hancock came out of nowhere to beat Kanye for AOTY.
Also, I’m guessing a lot of Grammy voters are older and traditional, slightly out of touch and not exactly avant-garde, so of course more traditional albums seem to triumph. Adele will tend to win over Beyoncé, and Taylor over Kendrick.
Also, if hip hop fans really want more recognition from the Grammys they should make sure they are adequately represented in the academy voting numbers. Low voting numbers from that group is how Macklemore won over Kendrick, which was a travesty.
I see nothing wrong with the Bruno win though. There’s much to be said about music that can make everybody feel good, that can actually get people up out of their seat. This is one of the few times the Grammys actually got it right, IMO.
That said, black people need to stop seeking Grammy validation. I stopped watching that show like ten years ago, so...
