Virtua Fighter is one of my all time favorite franchises. Not a single bad game in the series and it's extremely deep too. Especially the 2nd one for the Saturn.

mortal kombat 4 really hurt the MK name big time because it wasnt that great and looked like ass compared to tekken 3 which had just been released and is still hailed as the pinnacle of the series (as well as the last tekken that had a reasonable fukking story)
until mk9 it just wasnt respected as a technically proficient balanced fighter like it is now. as a youngster to tell you the truth, people played both, there wasnt really a divide like that until "tournament style play" came into the picture and nerds ruined fighting games as a whole jackin off to sf3.
