Shout out to Kells :whoa: he’s the only no brainer. He’s the king

Bc Michael Jackson is pop. ’King of pop’ is too heavy a title to have him here also

Chris brown hell no.

Usher has a bad discography post-Confessions but his pre-Confessions JD work makes him certified

My choices would be:

R. Kelly ….Usher….Luther ….Stevie Wonder

No one else yall are naming were popular enough for long enough and across multiple generations. Luther just got sampled and introduced to a whole new demographic. Stevie—-partly bc he was blind ——achieved iconic fame. Plus the possible greatest R&b album. Fame that Ron Isley, Al green, etc didn’t. Fame matters when talking Mt Rushmore

Or maybe the metrics count cause what white boy, let alone at Complex is picking Musiq Soulchild? :comeon:

Mike was THE performer but had zero ballads. I went off of singing ability (ballads)

Cmon bruh lol The point of ‘mt Rushmore’ is not just talent or your personal favorite it’s success, impact, fame, etc in addition to talent.

MJ to me is R&B and Pop.

R&B means different things as well. We talking 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s? All are different.

I’d say MJ belongs there.

I'm not mad at this photo.
Me personally though, if we talking strictly the cats who built they're entire discography off of straight R&B, my picks would be

Luther
Marvin
Usher
R. Kelly

Nikkas like MJ transcended R&B. He really conquered multiple genres in his adult prime. Stevie too. He transcends R&B. He was experimenting and dominating multiple genres in his prime as well.

Vocally , none of em fukking with a prime Donny Hathaway though. :wow:

Any list without Ollie Woodson from the Temptations isn't valid. Most singers can be copied but I've yet to hear ANYONE copy & do what Ollie could do. He's the baddest male singer to pick up a mic

This is him outta his prime
