Then as we got older and gained knowledge that Africa was the origin of all men, we accepted it. However, it was Africans who would say we weren’t pure. Then with the talk of reparations, there was the need to distinguish ourselves from other Black people because of this unique experience here in the states that Black Americans have. It was never about wishing to be white.
