Who uploads photos directly to forums

I've been on forums since I was 16, going back 12 years now almost. That was before Imgur was a thing. But even then I always used imageshack or gyazo to upload pictures

It doesn't make sense to me, why someone would upload direct to the site instead of to an image hosting site. Most forums I've been on don't even allow direct upload, it takes up too much server storage
