I've said on here multiple times that Ice Cube's reign as a solo artist was Jordan-like. He was really that dude for a 3-4 year period.

If he wanted a lyrical battle, it would have been nothing for him to go in the booth, fire back, and put the song out there.

He decided not to do that.

The NOI got involved because members of his and Mack's camps wanted to take it to the streets after Common's song. Common's people wanted the smoke.
Luckily it didn't get to that.
