I was in Amsterdam yesterday.

The Nike town there had 5 athletes covering the front of the building only two of them were NBA players.

Gianni's and Wemby

He probably can't live up to the push but I hope he does

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm just going to enjoy this once-in-a-many-lifetimes prospect for whatever may come in the future.

I've noticed a lot of hate, skepticism and uncertainty, which is only natural given the circumstances, but a lot of these folks are going to be pleasantly surprised when they actually see him play for themselves. He's legit in every single way. He's got the BBIQ, he's got the motor, he's got the killer instinct, simply put, he was made to hoop. Anyone thinking he's some soft ass 7fter whose only playing basketball because of his height are severely mistaken.
He’s exceeding the hype.

He's definitely levelling up right now. You can see it. It's beyond just the numbers....he's just moving like a tier 0 superstar. He's looking like a top 5 player at minimum and he's now finding the right balance between attacking the paint and his 3 pointers. He's really eating off that 3 point pump fake now.

AND the mf is a born psycho competitor. :wow:

If he stays healthy, it really might be a wrap for the league, especially with how well San Antonio's future looks even beyond Wemby. Harper could be a top 10 player in the league as well in a few years. shyt is crazy.

Really the only thing is staying fit. He’s not off to a great start with that DVT. He’s almost certainly on blood thinners still. With his dimensions and playstyle he’s at a higher risk for injury at baseline

The question is do I think he'll live up to hype? The hype around him has always been to the highest highs, so at minimum I'm expecting a Tim Duncan-esque career, at max a Kareem-level career.

But do I think he'll meet that? No, because he's already playing catch up. Those guys were instant, Day 1 dominant. Wembanyama was fine by the end of his rookie year, but it was choppy at first, and he's been injured at a far higher clip than they were when they were young.

He has a chance to be a really special, best player in league type of dominant, for 7 healthy years. A guy at his height lasting much longer than that, Yao had a strong 6-year run and it was over. Wemby is better than Yao, I'll give him 7, 8 years tops.

Kareem and Duncan both had 15-year runs of excellence, so the answer to the question, no I don't think Wemby meets the hype, but he'll be great on the window he has.

People ignored Wemby working out and training with Kevin Garnett loony ass last summer to add that edge he was looking for.

He might end up as the new legit goat over Mike. if his health holds up for 10 years. He could end up with 6 Dpoys, 4 MVPs and 4+ chips in 10-12 years. All he needs is 12 years to make it happen.

You do realize Duncan and career entered the NBA at 22

Wemby was 19

And this is his first injury-plagued season. He played 71 in year one and was on pace to play 70+ games again until the blood clot
