Respect the good & understand the bad
The best smartphone is the one you already own

Finally, every new smartphone contains several grams of rare earth metals and “conflict” minerals including gold, tin, tungsten, and tantalum. These are mined for, at gunpoint, by child slaves in the Congo. That’s right: Your purchase of a new smartphone requires a kid to go into a cave for minerals, and empowers the people and companies who are exploiting him. (To be fair, most smartphone manufacturers feel really bad about this, and wish they could come up with a way of supplying you with a new phone every year that didn’t depend on raping and killing children.)

The only thing you should be concerned with is efficiency. Is that iPhone 4 efficient in terms of what you need it to do for you? If so, then that's the end of the discussion.

I was rocking with an Xperia Ion LT28i for a good while and just upgraded to a Moto G4 Plus in July because of how badly I needed the upgrade (and because of Pokemon Go, if we're keeping it 100 :skip:), and even the Xperia still worked in terms of the very basic functions I wanted. The only issues were the battery life (although apparently they came out the box with a trash battery capacity), and the GPS was so bugged out that it ended up crashing and restarting my phone... Resulting in me flashing the rom not too long ago which seemed to have fixed it (and increased the processing speed as well :yeshrug:). But it still works, still have it at my desk too.

The point is, phones can last really long depending on how well you treat them and how much you know about them. Since it's an iPhone I don't know much about it (I'm an Android guy... not out of loyalty, but moreso convenience :manny:), but I'm sure there are ways to keep it running perfectly fine. A phone is meant to be a mode of communication through calling and texting. If it can at least do those two, it's still a phone. If it can't do either, it's basically a tablet. :pachaha: So you're good.

i wouldn't assume someone is broke based on their phone.

until last year i had an old phone (upgraded when the screen cracked plus there were some apps i couldnt run). I will admit, the old phone did feel tacky as fukk. especially with the screen cracked. I don't need the latest phone but at the same time, i don't like getting attention and the old phone was actually "loud" in a weird way. it's kind of like cars. I don't need a luxury car that gets attention but at the same time i wouldn't like to have a bucket in a weird off color just cause it runs. i like to be able to just merge into the crowd when i need :ninja1:

the problem with a phone that old is that it doesn't have LTE service. which means that if you're not on wifi, the data is EXTREMELY slow.
