Above the fray.
Such a worthless character. She blamed Doughboy for everything but never herself from not putting her children in a better neighborhood to begin with. One son got shot, the other son got caught up in the streets then shot. And had no father to help steer them to adulthood. They never had a chance to begin with.
John Singleton caught a lot of heat for that character. I thought some of the criticism was valid, but some of it went overboard. Angela Basset and Nia Long's characters were counter balances to her, to me.

The mom treated the sons based on the relationships they had with their fathers. I saw this from being around friends growing up.....and saw it with female cousin later in life. (and called her on it)Sad shyt.

But....you're blaming rick/Dough's mom for them living in that neighborhood? Same neighborhood that successful, stable Furious Styles lived in?

We need a spin-off movie of dough before he got locked up.

Have Cuba Gooding JR old ass start off the movie talking to his child about the old days. On some reminiscing shyt. Then cue out to Cubes son playing dough boy and the dirt they were doing, ending it with Dough going to jail.

On some Saving Private Ryan type intro and ending.

Yeah? Trey's Mom and Pop made it out. Not saying it would've been easy.

I was about to say Hollywood ain't bout that life, but Straight outta compton was pretty good. But I think a classic should stay a classic.

Killers only hung with killers...so if Monster was about that life then Dough was about it...them murders didn’t fukk with him in the slightest, it was his brother death that made him reflect the next morning...Ricky death fukked with him so much that he simply got caught slipping...that’s how he got murdered

I hated her whole attitude towards Dough. Right as soon as she was introduced, her mentally abusive ass was chewing Dough out. He shook it off, but I can't imagine enduring that on a daily basis. She never had his back. Ricky was her golden child.

Despite all that, homie was always down to ride for his bro no matter how the situation was looking.

Maliciously? Nah. He came across as a decent guy with a moral center who was strapped because of his environment and the need for protection from the kind of people who killed Ricky. There are a lot of dudes like him in the hood. :francis:

I don't know about that now, folks seem outta control. But I'm not about that life. I stayed in North Memphis for a bit, so I did kinda sense who had a moral compass and who didn't

I don’t think so. He probably shot some people but never knew whether they died. With this one he did it point blank, he looked and sounded remorseful talking to Tre.
