Do You Believe That Society Would Be Better Off Without Religion?

Before I start, this isn't talking about the existence of g-d. That's not my argument whatsoever. I'm talking about the religious hierarchy.


John Lennon's "Imagine" brings a good point. This world has had WARS over religion. Just some examples, Armenian Genocide, Cyprus conflict, Israel/Palestine, ISIS (funding by Saudis), and etc.


Spirituality is important because it preaches love. However, religion has been used as fear and intimidation/bullying. Even women have been oppressed in religion.

So, what do you guys think? At the end of the day we are all people. Now, in some instances religion serves a purpose and I'll admit that as an Agnostic I'm infatuated with Pope Francis's work. I think we need more leaders like him.

P.S. let's not turn this thread into if g-d does or doesn't exist because that isn't the point of my thread and we have too many of those anyway.

BTW, I will say that religion has turned people against each other as a whole.

To be honest, I don't think it would make a difference.

The way I see it humanity is naturally combative and selfish. If it's not relion it's tribes or culture or race. Any type of difference to justify our acts

That said, a society without religion isn't realistic in the long term. People would just make up new religions.

Any cac that says religion is outlawed or wants to ouylaw it is a devil who wants license to be a degenerate so your hypothetical is flawed and basically impossible.

That's an argument which could go either way because of the different sects of Christianity (Ethiopian Orthodox). However, Christianity, Islam, Bus\Buddhism, and, Judaism (even though I line up with that the most) have all caused turmoil in one way or another. I mean the whole politicizing of it.

I never said outlawed, but not the main focal point. Most of these religions don't even take climate change seriously. At least Pope Francis is bringing that issue to the forefront.


Also, people can be good or bad without religion.
