Loneliness gets the best of us. I think we all need someone whether in friendship or romance. I’ve seen it with almost every human being I’ve met and known. The ones that are adamant about being alone usually have been hoarders of things in my experience.

This. Same. I don’t see it either. All I see my parents do for the past 5 yrs is go to the hospital and funerals. Their neighbor died, coworkers dying, Each week is who has what disease. The past 2 years- my stepfathers health is bad, he can’t take care of himself without intervention and goes to dialysis 3 times a week for the rest of his life. That becomes the spouse’s issue - plan life around their sickness and appts; constant back and forth. Depressing actually - if I ever get a debilitating disease or can’t take care of myself, rather be gone than to not be able to function or a burden on my family; when you know the inevitable stage is death anyway. Medication and expenses to keep me alive.. nah. Just prolonging the process. If there’s no quality of life, I can’t see it. I’ll be thankful for the time I had and ready to check out. Living Will with Directives - Put me in a hospice and call it a day.
