My uncle used to rent his back yard out to some elderly man who had a camper. That old man lived back there for years before he died.

When he did finally die, he was so old he didmt have any surviving family or friends. He had no one to contact to tell of his death, he had no one to arrange his funeral or even attend it.

I used to think it was quite tragic.. But ive realized that dying young and having a filled funeral is much more tragic. I'm ok with dying alone. Its a trip i have to take alone anyways.

We have very close multi-generational living. None of our elders ever had to worry about dying alone or amongst strangers.

Grandmother and grandfather on both sides lived independently until they were like 80. Then lived with us and I loved growing up and seeing my grandmother and grandfather daily.
Multi generational living also cuts down on childcare costs and it’s a beautiful way to link the old elders with the new young ones.

My grandmother and I shared a real special bond. We were inseparable. My mom and dad was like “damn can we have our daughter back.”

Our elders pass on in comfort surrounded by people who love them. My grandmother told me she was ready before she died. I can’t fathom her having been away from us in an old folk home or something. My grandfather was so damn social that even the mayor attended his funeral. They lived great lives.
