The other thing about Alexander was that he was a supreme military genius, the best we will ever have known. Only Hannibal comes close. In an 11 year career he created an empire from Greece to Pakistan from east to west, and from Tajikistan to Egypt from north to south.

You think about the technology they had at that time and it's just a mind-boggling achievement. Motherfukkers had to walk everywhere. Only 15% of the army rode horses, and ships could only stay out at sea a couple of days before having to land to get fresh water and food. It would take a good two or three years just to walk all corners of his empire, and that's with no resistance, no need to fight your way through.

The only failure on his record as a commander is the mutiny. That's where Hannibal has Alexander covered: although he led an extremely diverse army comprised of Carthaginians, Numidians, Iberians, Celts, Gauls and Italians, nobody ever mutinied. They all backed him 100%, even though there were so many cultures and languages and religions and races. Nothing united that army except respect for Hannibal's leadership. On the other hand the Macedonians lost their shyt as soon as Alexander started adding Persian and other Asian people to his army, as soon as he showed friendship and respect to foreigners.
