This is equal parts revisionism, delusion and nonsense.
They lost the Finals by essentially one shot, it wasn't like they went out in the 1st round, so I don't know how it could possibly be "one of the biggest failures of all time in the history of sports", parlayed by the fact that that the core won a championship the year before and then proceeded to have more championship success after that season (before you recklessly bring up KD, they won without him in 2022).
They still created a dynasty even after losing in 2016.
And no, nobody cut Steph any slack for losing that season. You're a 2022 poster, so it seems you're not privy to what was said about him in wake of that, and all the way up until he won in 2022.
No, it's not revisionism and delusion

.
They were up 3-1 and lost 3 games in a row with a chance to close it out. You got prime Steph and Klay yet they still choked and shyt the bed, game 7 wouldn't have been necessary if they took care of business.
People don't talk about it enough, back when it happened, of course, but in 2025 it's become a distant memory and that's partially because Curry is such a likable guy that fans and the media are willing to overlook his biggest failure by acting like it didn't happen, bringing up Draymond's suspension, or minimizing it like you're doing by downplaying talking about “one shot” when they had 3 opportunities to seal the deal.
The media always brings up the 73-9 season and its regular season accolades and Curry's MVP but don't go further on how much of a failure it was, yet hypothetically speaking if Bron, KD, and Giannis, among other stars it would be a big blemish on their careers, fans would never let it go but for Curry, it's treated as a “whatever/yeah he lost but so what” moment.
I like Steph. He's one of my favorites, but I notice as time has gone on, he doesn't get much ridicule for that season's failure. It's pretty non-existent.
