🤣 🤣 🤣 at this thread...

In addition to setting the regular season wins record, the 2016 Warriors had the first unanimous MVP who went b2b, and was 1st Team All-NBA;

Had a 2nd Team All-NBA forward at his absolute peak;

And had another guard on the 3rd Team All-NBA...

I'll wait for one of you nikkas to point out another team in NBA history that had three All-NBA guys in the same year, that shouldn't be considered a Super Team...

nikkas already invoking LeBron's name in a thread that aint about LeBron, but since yall Stans love bringing him up 🤣 he's never played on a team where he had two active All-NBA guys with him. Hasn't happened once and yall swear he's had 10 super teams, but the '16 Dubs roll out with THREE All-Pros and that don't fit the characteristics of a Super Team...

Yall nikkas hell 🤣 🤣
Why i made this thread tbh, because it seems obvious people have different criteria for what is a superteam. Because if a team that won 73 games with multiple Allstars deep bench mvps relative to the league etc isnt one im not sure what is one. I guess we'd have to go back to maybe the 80s Celtics then?

Spurs at one point had Duncan, Parker, Manu and Kawhi and no one *ever* called them a superteam.

Superteam almost has a negative connotation to it lol.
Duncan was on a downswing by then kawhi wasnt kawhi and manu wasn't manu. Heat was the sole superteam during that period. Spurs was a great team though. The 2016 spurs was a great team, sadly Duncan was washed though

I think its best to define a superteam first then. cuz some ppl think a great team="superteam". I think superteam means teaming up established players, at least one player of star stature who wasnt there before.

I agree with you about the Heat. And Warriors obviously with KD.

I don't think you have to team up to be a superteam, you can be drafted to one like magic and bird were. Superteams are typically greater than the rest of the league from a talent perspective, little room for margin of error to lose. The heat was that, they had 3 of the greatest players at their position. Heats only hole was their depth. I actually think lebrons 2nd cavs was a superteam too, he stacked the deck, warriors were just even more talented b4 kd and after

2016 spurs was a great team high srs team but they were roleplayer driven which is how the 2016 thunder beat them

Nope, not a superteam. Someone in here already mentioned it but going into that season nobody took them that serious because the narrative at the time was they couldn't beat healthy teams. Then the season starts and they set the world on fire going 24-0 to have the best start in NBA history to earn their respect. If they were a superteam beforehand nobody would be upset that KD joined them, KD joining them is what put them over the top to add an MVP and another perennial All-NBA player. Their slogan back then was strength in numbers, I think it was more about how the team played than just overall dominance to where it's nothing you can do like when KD joined them.

The problem with is -

Heading into the 2016 season, nobody even entertained the thought of GS being a superteam, in fact, it was more to the contrary. Many still treated them as a gimmick team, with an asterisk attached to the chip they won the season before. What they acheived during 2015 was constantly disrespected due to the level of competition they faced in the playoffs and their style of play (which still wasn't treated seriously).

I know you weren't on this board at the time, but they were looked at as more of a lucky team than they were a superteam.

Which is the reason why I ain't trying to hear this revisionism about them when everyone had a different energy towards them heading into into that season.

I don't have any issue, whatsoever, if someone classified that '16 squad as one, but you damn sure better have considered them one before that season began.

None of this in retrospect bullshyt.

Not when all those players on that team were still being underrated despite being stamped.

Nah just a deep team with with an ahead of its time offensive system. Steph was a superstar, klay was an elite 3&D all star, and draymond was problay one of goat Swiss ary knives playing a unique brand of basketball at the time. They performed like a superteam but the the roster doesn't justify that label because superteams refer to teams with multiple superstars in my opinion

i would add the lakers team that had dwight and nash. they were still all star-caliber players and were definitely viewed as a superteam going into that season.

obviously that team didnt accomplish anything but to me being a superteam is entirely about how the roster is constructed and the team’s results dont actually matter

Nah. Nash was like 40 and Dwight was recovering from back surgery, they were not favorites to dominate
