Making this thread off the heels of this thread

But this is a discussion that I've always had amongst friends. How much skill is really involved in running ?

For eg. You can develop and hone specific skills within other sports like football or basketball. You can practice drills to better your hand eye coordination and tactics to improve your game. But with track you're just running.

Speed is something that's pretty much out of your control for the most part, would you agree ? Some people are just fast. Some people just aren't. You can train and enhance breath control to maximize your speed but for the most part isn't it just inherent ?

Thoughts ?

Spoken like someone who has never played a sport in their entire life

This is like people who think they can get on stage and be a comedian, just because they make people laugh while out eating all the time.

Track and field is made up of a bunch of events.

The running events require dedication, training, and the ability to read the field and manage the race.

Doesn't appeal to everybody as a spectator, I get that part. Ex runners watch and people who can appreciate pure competition watch it. Mano a Mano.

Track is probably the most universal sport in history.

Like who can’t identify with “first one to the _____ wins” :gucci:

I wonder what could have happened recently to lead to the OP questioning the validity of Track & Field as a legitimate sport.

:jbhmm:
Oh you know why he made it, he’s on some:mjpls:
Nobody ever questioned the sport when Bruce Jenner was still in the closet sucking dikk in rest stops:dame:
