Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Right now there is a man who could be faster than Usain bolt but he's 240lbs sitting on his ass working at a call center. The genetics are there, but he has no passion for track or the motivation for it.

Track is a legitimate sport that works several muscles in the body. I've yet to see a sprinter who has noodle arms and a gut. If you will question any sport it would be combat sports since a fight can be decided because of who hits first and hardest.

ughh..... nikkas man.... always some dumb shyt flying outta ya mouths

there are more skills, nuances and mechanics in combat than fukking track and field....... ughh:hhh::francis:

Making this thread off the heels of this thread

But this is a discussion that I've always had amongst friends. How much skill is really involved in running ?

For eg. You can develop and hone specific skills within other sports like football or basketball. You can practice drills to better your hand eye coordination and tactics to improve your game. But with track you're just running.

Speed is something that's pretty much out of your control for the most part, would you agree ? Some people are just fast. Some people just aren't. You can train and enhance breath control to maximize your speed but for the most part isn't it just inherent ?

Thoughts ?

True.....but a person that's not fast enough for sprints might be good at middle distance or long distance.

This doesn't include the field events like shot put, discus, javelin etc.

Most people have some talent for running but the trick is figuring out "which" races you'd be good at.

The difference between fast and Olympic medal fast is about technique, training and mental focus. If you take one false step, you go from the gold medal to 6th place.

400m sprinters always amazed me the most. You don't realize how fast they move because it looks so effortless.

Distance runners?

These Kenyan and Ethiopian brehs run 26 miles in 2 hrs. That's 13 mph for two gotdamn hours. Treadmill at the gym usually only goes up to 10 mph. Imagine turning up the treadmill at the gym to max level and running that speed for 2hrs....and know a marathon breh would cover 6 more miles in that two hr time span.

OP is just confusing sport with team sport. Track is a sport, football is the latter.

Not sure why track isn't a sport or why that thread inspired you to ask.

Edit: OP seems to be basing this on how genetically predisposed one is to succeed at track vs other sports. In this regard you have a point but it's still a sport.

I understand there is some confusion in the thread title. But I'm not literally asking if track is a sport. I was just being loose with my language. What you said in the bolded is what I meant
