. But part of the reason is that with the advance of large flat screen TVs and huge cable/streaming service show budgets, TV has turned into the better medium to tell complex stories. The only reason to go to the movies is to see spectacular special effects on a huge screen. And with the amount of money necessary to finance those, movie studies are only financing movies guaranteed to provide a return on investment.
