It is! A friend of mine told exactly this to his psychiatrist and got diagnosed
I think the difference between having an internal voice and schizophrenia is that your internal voice is usually voiced by yourself and you’re cognizant that you’re currently thinking in your head, while schizophrenic people have voices talking at them that they can’t decipher as their own thoughts

No and I'm glad. Ofc I think before I speak. I just don't have another man narrating what I'm thinking or doing :dame: That must be hell. I

"Oh, there's a red light! Better stop!"

"My toe is itching"

"This tee-shirt is green. This table is white. This room is well lit."

 maddening. The concepts and the thoughts just form in my brain without the need to say them. It's like seeing.

Wait, wtf are you guys describing? I can hear a voice or I suppose a faint imitation of my own voice if I decide to pause and focus on it but it doesn't come out of nowhere and talk to me at random. Are you guys okay? :merchant:
Some describe the absence of speaking voice in our head as a mild form of aphantasia (which would the best form to have imo) but I don't think that's judicious. Based on what you said, you can "imagine" voices and sounds if you want to, right? Same thing for me.

It's just that our default setting doesn't have our voice consistently spelling out our thoughts in our head. And honestly that sounds like a blessing :hubie:

it's scary that there are some people walking around without it
I’m saying.

How do you literally not have thoughts? Like every single thing has to be spoken. I don’t understand that at all.

Like when you were a kid and the teacher called on you to answer a question, did you stand up and run through the possible answers out loud? Or think quietly and then give your answer? Because I imagine your teacher would be like :why: if you always ran through possible answers out loud lol

Well then wouldn’t you fall into the same group?

I think we are debating people who have the ability to think/visualize without opening their mouths VS people who literally have to say every thought out loud (so other people hear their thoughts).

You said you think before you speak. They’re saying there are other people who basically speak before they “speak”. Whatever you are thinking before you speak, is what someone else is saying out loud in an attempt to formulate their final thought.

Yes I do have an inner monologue. Not only that, but I also can analyze my thinking while I am thinking. I can only do it when I am very tired, but need to make sure I get something done right.

Also, my body can be asleep and my mind wide awake. I've heard myself snore plenty of times, seen my wife walk out the room while I am snoring, and my wife comes back and swears I was a sleep. I wonder if anyone else here has noticed a definite separation between their body and their consciousness?
Sounds like your body and consciousness haven’t quite separated yet, but you’re getting there.
You could probably travel, if you try.

anyone who doesn't is mentally deficient.

sorry to tell you.
I tend to agree.

Only because I have been around someone who doesn’t have an inner monologue and you realize that they have to say
EVERY
SINGLE
THING.

It is absolutely maddening.

If anyone remembers the TRANSFORMER movies— the woman who plays Shia LeBouf’s mom. THAT is someone who doesn’t have an inner dialogue! And that is how annoying it can be to be around someone like that.

If you are quizzing the types of people that specifically go onto online forums to engage in discussion you are going to get a bias in the answers. A lot of people actually don’t have inner monologues and it makes a fukk ton of sense when it you compare peoples ability to reflect and plan for the long term. There’s a lot of things that we take for granted that are foreign to others and, vice versa.

You said a word right there.
I didn’t even make that connection. Whew.
