Know your worth. If your not getting promoted at your current job promote yourself by getting a better job. Thats really the fastest way to higher income and better positions anyway. Attempting to climb the ladder is a waste of time. Its way easier to come into a corp job as a manager or above than it is to be promoted within to upper management.

Yep, ive seen that play out numerous times. At a job i was working in college some people were trying to be super nikka and learn how to do everything on the job. They became irreplaceable as most of the other workers were complete idiots and couldnt be trusted, so when they put in their transfer papers our manager blocked it claiming the operation couldnt be run properly without them at this time. shyt happened at least 3 times that i know of.

The manager knew i was capable of doing that shyt too and tried to have me do all that extra shyt but i was like NOPE. Yeah, im smart, smart enough to see right through this trap, is what i thought as she was trying to convince me to learn extra roles. When it came time for me to transfer out there was no problem.

To the bitter, hateful & doubtful types Much success to you, even if you wish me the opposite :ahh:

Also its not ass kissing its more like 'distinguishing yourself from the herd.' :umad:

To reiterate what some have said there is a difference between kissing ass, backstabbing coworkers & networking. Networking is nothing but socializing for the sake of helping yourself and others, building mutually beneficial relationships with people across the organization. I make a serious effort to remain out of office politics, & I think I succeed in that on the most part. This is mostly because I tend to bounce between our sites alot up & down the region etc.

Like everyone I have missed opportunities & gained others - but the great ones I have been able to take advantage of absolutely would not have happened without my having networked a lot and gotten myself recognized in a positive light. No need to kiss anyone's ass to do that. If you have no choice but to kiss ass to go anywhere, you're probably lacking in other important areas.

To quote a conversation with my superior whilst discussing some interviews/unit restructuring-

"One of the worst aspects of being a boss is that everyone has got great credentials, but great credentials do NOT guarantee that someone can apply any knowledge whatsoever. You actually end up learning more about people when they tell you about themselves"

^^^^^ Straight from the horse's mouth :banderas:

@Primordial props for the reps :salute:

@Atsym Sknyfs - Couldn't have explained that Godfather reference any better if I tried :obama:

It depends on what your plan is.. sometimes its good to be silent and under the radar if your persuing more education or certs on the side.

Well I've always Been the type to let my work speak for itself as opposed to trying to be known or all in everyone's face making sure they knew who I was. At my last job I got an outperformance award, clients liked me, and so did the people I worked with, I'm at a new job now with a higher position and higher salary because a colleague pretty much brought me to this company with her when she left my old job a year ago. Now I work directly under her.
