Exactly.

I remember starting out with 5dimes and having to use Western Union to deposit there. Then I was able to send crypto. Now, you have numerous books in every state at the tip of your finger.

Anywhere I go now, people are just talking about their “big parlays”, which are the dumbest bets you can do and why I’ve lost a good amount on them. I’m actually probably not down THAT much on sports betting over the years. I’m wayyyyy down on blackjack.

It only gets worse for people if they end up getting a higher paying job. You start taking more chances with larger amounts and you end up chasing. It happens to almost everyone, and anyone that says it doesn’t happen to them is likely lying.

I remember when I used to do $10 and $20 bets. Then I’ve had years where I was doing $500-1,000 per bet. Then I’ve had times where I was putting $5,000 down on bets. Won some, got smoked on some. I’ve toned it down in terms of how much I’m betting on an event now, but even the small amounts add up because you look at each one individually and then realize that a bunch of small ones is not a small amount at all.

I remember when I used to wager higher amounts on blackjack that I was doing $500+ on hands. That doesn’t include splitting and doubling down. Had some great days and nights, but the house always wins. Takes one bad streak and then not having discipline to fukk you up.
Do you see blackjack as luck or skill? I see poker as skill albeit still gambling because you don’t control the cards. Blackjack…

If you know all the plays, can you consistently win? I never got deep into it so I considered it as entertainment.

As far as sport betting, I consume a lot of content. I had 5 fantasy basketball teams going some seasons. I dabbled during the western union days. I have some money in a Bovada from 10 years ago. I bet maybe 5 times since then. I guess I prefer something I think I have “control” over.

There is skill in poker. I don't play much, but there is definitely a level of skill needed in poker in order to be very good.

In blackjack, it is 100% luck. The ONLY way you can have any sort of "edge" is if you play "perfect strategy" AND can count cards. Counting cards isn't illegal, but casinos will ban you, so if you take away card counting, you will have no edge in blackjack and there is not magical strategy that will help you win in the long term. You may be at a table and have a great run with your "strategy" and think that is what is allowing you to win, but I'd guarantee if someone using some "special strategy" were to go back a few more times and use it, they are losing all of their money. I only really like playing blackjack if I can somehow find a table where no one is sitting at or if I'm with some friends that I know are going to play the correct way and not do absolutely wild shyt like splitting face cards and stuff.

both of my parents (RIP) were addicted to them slot machines. Gambling flies under the radar for how addictive and dangerous is it.

I made a thread about how gambling was advertising to black people and the Coli became too obsessed with telling me that gambling companies are advertising to everyone.

That wasn't my point :francis:

I'm surprised all these gambling APPs don't have lines of credit yet....thats when its going 2 get real ugly.

I don't know really any black people that do, or admit it.

I have some white coworkers that go to the casinos at least once a week if not twice or 3 times.

They are members and the casinos give out free plays and door prizes, so basically they're hooked.

Threadstarter here... I've never actually looked at the gambling thread on this site, but I know that there's one or two. Are people mostly winning in there?
