You cannot do a diagnosis like that on yourself. You can be depressed and have aspergers. Aspergers traits however cannot be confused for depressive traits.

I have two cousins who have autism. One is highly functioning and the other is at the severe end of the spectrum.

What signs does a highly functioning autistic person show?

A few kids in my program are autistic to varying degrees. Asperger's is legit rare and even people who say they have it probably don't.

But to be honest, some of the Autistic kids are some of the coolest. The don't have that weird social perception thing going for them so they would rather enjoy what they enjoy and not worry about "looking lame". The also are hella nice for the most part. I haven't had any incidents of any of our Autistic kids antagonizing the other kids.

With that said, dealing with them can be really hard, emotions can fluctuate wildly, the almost all have little habits that can be a huge hindrance to learning. I had one kid that could rattle off Steph Curry's FG% while he was defended in third quarter away games, from beyond 12 ft. But can't write a simple paragraph. Its really heartbreaking to be honest.

No but I have had several people assume I was autistic. My friend is interning to be a mental health counselor and it was a section in her book about autism that described me very well.
My mom was a teacher and taught a few autistic kids and thinks I'm normal. But I've heard that it manifests differently across ages and gender.
My friend that I should go to a psychiatrist to get checked out but I'm scared

Breh, get it checked out. All my life I was told I was borderline (when the sh-t first came out) come to find out misdiagnosed. When I was a child it was written that I had depressive signs. It's better to know who you are. Especially, if you are a Black man.

I feel out my papers in three months, so I can get my loan for college. Also, I am going about taking an apprenticeship along with that. Can we keep the thread on topic please?
