My desktop is my server. Doesn't get much "me time" though. Just sits and does its job

Yep

Im about to buy a new one the beginning of next year too, since the one i have is old and not much memory. I cant do work/school work on laptops.

I agree. I hate laptops ... first off i need a mouse... I hate the pad because its always in a spot where when i type i'm moving the cursor... Plus I need the larger screen.. i cant do real work on under 21.. and with Autocad I'll need a $2000 machine .. might as well get a desktop

Plus I hate wireless networking ... and the battery always wanna die when you in the middle of something and gotta plug it in, sit it on a table and then it becomes a desktop

Kinda curious as to what people here think.

Had a coworker tell me he was surprised when I mentioned that I still use a desktop PC at home. He said he thought desktops were dying out and most people didn't use them outside of work anymore. But I don't know if I agree with that...granted, I have a laptop/phone/console/etc too but I still like rocking the regular desktop. I find that desktops have less problems and are easier to upgrade/fix than laptops, not to mention cheaper.

Thoughts on this? Are desktops dying out or is that an exaggeration?
Your co-worker most likely doesn't do anything overly complex in his spare time.
He isn't editing or rendering anything, seriously gaming, making modifications or alterations to anything, programing, or basically doing anything intensive or original... otherwise he'd find that a laptop, tablet, phone, or console simply don't cut it.

Content creaters would cease to exist without PCs.
Content consumers (which most people are) can get along fine without a PC in today's world. So there is truth to what he is saying.
The reason you are using PCs at work is because PCs get work done. Him not having a PC of his own lets you know he isn't working on anything outside of devoting his life to that company. That should be his real concern.

Sitting on the floor in my room. Only use it to listen to my old music. I wish it was a way to get all my music off of it without using a flashdrive :to:

I'm actually in the market for one right now, mainly for media server capacity and a stable home for my overall media collection. I'll probably just purchase a tablet for walking around the house at the same time. Not too keen on laptop life anymore.

Laptops and Tablets are for general web surfing and maybe a simple word documnet or 2.. but when you need to get into the grit and functionalilty of any program its the desktop that wins.
