These "life experiences" might get you prop with certain people but these rappers are trying to get rich and famous not just live on Internet/street praise their whole careers. Even then, the story of going to school and avoiding the streets and coming up is a far more relatable, less cliche, and desired story to be heard, you actually think people give a single fukk that you were broke or hooked on drugs :heh:Maybe for some people but that's not whats gonna sell

:what::what:

Life experience=broke and hooked on drugs:usure:

My point is that he hasnt led much of a life to even have a story to tell.

I was born.
I went to school.
My parents split up.
My brother sold drugs.
My favorite rappers made me want to rap.
I took rap seriously.
(you could insert details to make it interesting like "back to school" sean or "drug free" sean)
I released my first mixtape
I signed to kanye.

Don't get me wrong J Cole suffers from the exact same problem. He handles it better by giving you stories and concepts because he knows the well is shallow when it comes to talking about his life.

Oh yea "in other words im all hair for ya"

How is that not a story to tell :what: That's the average American life and dream fool, and you can make compelling songs around those experiences. And you just said in your other post he "needs to go broke or some shyt" in order to acquire captivating life experiences to rap about. You act like Biggie, Jay, Nas, Kendrick, Drake, etc had such great and interesting life stories worthy of 5 A&E documentaries. Nobody's background is that interesting besides maybe Pac, its how one handles and packages it to the listener like you said.

nikkas still hating on Big Sean in 2015 :mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

He's nothing special. He'll be forgotten in a few years.

He had a dope verse on Control, though

:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol: how long people are going to say this on here? Outside of maybe Drake....Sean has had more hit records than all of his peers. The haters have to get it through their heads that Sean will go down as one of the best in this era. Getting hated on on these forums ain't going to change that. Without Big Sean G.O.O.D Music would be been dead in the mainstream audience years ago.

:sadcam:...

nikka.

Clearly that is a super relatable story to tell. But can Big Sean convey that well? Can he tell a story? That's what I meant about J Cole. Average story but he knows how to take pieces and turn them into songs.

My point was that Big Sean isnt artistically inclined enough to craft songs from the small well that he has.

He can make songs tho. And I definitely fukk with atleast 10 off the top of my head. Majority of the rest can leave or stay.

And yes. Big Sean made it out of Detroit. Big Sean has a home in cali and moved his family to west bloomfield. I dont know how much money he has but he made it out this bytch. Its a black hole frfr. If he went broke shyt would get spooky. Look at Soulja Boy. BUT...

I dont think Big Sean would be able to turn that shyt into an actual record.

He can definitely rap

He just isn't a compelling enough of a person to make me really care about his music which is why I felt he always needed a feature to make his songs good

But Dark Sky Paradise was a top 10 rap album this year to me

Wouldn't you put Drake in the never-struggled-didn't-have-a-hard-life category too? Privileged background. Jewish/half white, gets a pass - doesn't have to rap about his struggles as a black man...because he's never encountered anything bad enough to warrant rapping about it. Being from Canada, free healthcare, making money off kindergarten level acting, fukking BBW strippers, sounds shallow.
