Do you think organized religion is just a means to distract people from the higher powers that be?

It seems like organized religion promotes taking life as it is and having faith things will change on their own and there is always a plan in place for a person. However this seems to go against logical thinking saying that doing nothing will change something not to say that God doesn't exist but instead you change your circumstances.
People become so enthralled with getting things and happiness without doing anything but believing that they let those in higher power pull the wool over their eyes without a second thought.
Thoughts?

I'm not against religion but I feel that sometimes it gets in the way of reality and allows people to continually be delusional about what life is doing and giving them.

Yes......All religions were put in place to form social norms and control people, also explaining what was unknown.....They were maintained to preserve the power of their leaders....There is no doubt that there are many people who are religious who fight for everything good in the world, empathy, charity, kindness....and I respect that, also some of the most kind, innocent, sweetest people...On the other hand, I have no doubt that religion is a tool of oppression, against those in poverty and the lower classes, and it keeps them, along with other social institutions and policies, always poor....its broken my heart to see people in third world countries, how hard they work, and just grateful to work in a laundry mat, and go to church three days a week....They keep their faith in the lord, and that belief in Jesus leads them to be followers and complacent....they think it's part of a plan.....that shyt is all stupid, and I struggle to maintain my contempt sometimes for those who believe, like just read about genocide, women dismembered in Juarez, kids catch stray bullets, 7 month old baby murdered in her Dad's arms.....and you think someone is up there watching over us....

It keeps the poor brainwashed and content so that the rich upper class can control and do what they want. It also gives people hope when things are so bad for them in this lifetime.

I suggest you go and look up the Dead Sea Scrolls along with the Torah which are what the Old Testament is based off of. And you can go find an old Greek manuscript of the New Testament (translated) since it was written in Greek in it's earliest form.

The Bible was written over thousands of years.....not just by one writer but by 40+.....How could a book form, over that time period, with that many different people and fit together like pieces of a puzzle? Only God could make that happen.

There are hundreds of prophecies written in that book about the Messiah by different writers and the prophets you talk about, and Jesus came and fulfilled every one of them. The only ones that haven't been fulfilled pertain to the end time, which have yet to take place but we are very close to now.
