Being proud of black culture isn't a trend and it isn't something that should be exclusive to black people. Anyone who uses black culture as a prop to look cool isn't a good example of a productive member of the black community.

I'd say the early 2000's were still pro-black.

The dark age really came around the mid-to-late 00's. The period of 07/08/09 al the way up until Trayvon Martin was just a horrible era. I remember being in my "anti-ignorance" phase as a kid it was so bad.

Well hell if enough black ppl try and fail, some will suceed, and thts good enough. i realize tht about 85% of nikkas (men & women) who call themselves "conscious" and "woke" dont really care about blacks controlling their own, they just want a bigger piece of tha white man's pie. tlwe are so used to being supported under white infastructure, tht we cant even imagine living, let alone thriving in a community with our own ppl controlling the reins. we get legit scared at the mention of tha very idea, akin to a spoiled momma's boy having to finally face responsibility and become self sufficient. i think if more black ppl knew our true history, and tha complete history of our relationship with europeans, not tha whitewashed version, we would not only realize tht we are selling ourselves short, and tht we are capable of more than we give ourselves credit, but realize tht simply striving for a higher rank on tha white man's platoon is not in our best interest, considering tha fact tht europeans have seen tha african at best as a commodity to be exploited, and at worst as public enemy #1 for at least tha last half millenium.

I remember when I was younger and grew up in the burbs I kind of adhered to that thing cause I felt it made me "different" from other black people...
Then the older I got I started to embrace black hood culture more...and started hanging out around more black people...and started having more pride in my blackness, family, and heritage...

And (in the process) started to distrust/loathe whites more.

I absolutely loathe white American "culture" now and have no desire to even be near them like that now.
Before I used to be the token black guy before I moved to NYC.

Sure, we are black no matter what we do and what we wear...but in my time living in NYC I realized the grass isnt' greener on the white side of the lawn...I just wish we could have more self-sustaining black communities independent of whites. I just wish black peopel didn't aspire to move out of the hood to the burbs. I feel welcome in NYC. I never felt welcome out where my family lives. I feel I'd have cops called on my ass for washing my car where my family lives cause it's so goddamn white and xenophobic. I would love to live in a black version of that suburb I grew up in., I'd love for my kids to grow up in that too.

Are you even from the hood? Why do you feel the need to embrace hood culture? You stop wearing vans ans skinny jeans ? For what Jordans and Balmains?
