Do you think there is a relationship between a persons taste in music & intelligence?

Im not really the person to call someone dumb, as no one is truly smart. But I just been thinking, and noticed that alot of the "slower" people tend to listen to dumbass ABC watered down music(roscoe dash cashn out) shyt like that. Im talking about people who would rather bump soulja boy than 2pac Nas or Cube.

Do you think they are dumb or they are just followers?

No correlation imo, some people just want different things out of music

Some just want to be entertained some want to learn some just want to bop their head

I feel you, but those same ones who "just want to be entertained" tend to not really be deep thinkers and shyt.

Like for example, when you watch a baby, you keep them entertained, when you have a bunch of kids over you(no pedo) you keep them entertained and most of the time its by letting them play video games, or giving them some goofy ass toy playing some silly ass abc song.

I dont mean to be an ass but I honestly see anyone INTELLIGENT only listening to abc music.

Actually, there is a correlation! They did a study on this.

The article talks about music and personality, and it suggests that people who like complex music (opera, jazz, etc.) are likely to be more intelligent than people who like simple music (country, sound track, etc.). Here is the excerpt:

Music preferences also appear to be influenced by cognitive ability. The relationship between cognitive ability and music preferences is consistent with the idea that people prefer music that provides optimal levels of stimulation. Berlyne (1971, 1974) hypothesized that individuals prefer aesthetic stimuli that produce moderate amounts of stimulation to objects that produce too much or too little stimulation. Previous research on aesthetic preferences in literature and visual arts has supported this notion, and this suggests that individual differences in cognitive complexity moderate preferences for particular aesthetic stimuli. Whereas cognitively complex individuals tend to prefer complex aesthetic stim- uli, less cognitively complex individuals tend to prefer simple aesthetic stimuli (Barron, 1955; Frances, 1976; Kammann, 1966). The relationship between intelligence and preference for complex music supports this previous work and suggests that the optimal level of stimulation for highly intelligent individuals is produced by complex music whereas the optimal level of stimulation for less intelligent individuals is produced by comparatively simpler music.

You don't have to read the article, it's kinda long. I just wanted to point out the important part.

absolutely. most of the people i know that listen to strictly pop...top 40...and other types of music that is lacking in deeper more thoughtful lyricism are dumb as fukk. of course there's a correlation. :comeon:

I think there is but it's only noticeable in extreme cases

Most people are of average intelligence and listen to average music so it's not a visible pattern

Definitely between people that know how to play instruments

In Ancient Greece they used to teach prospective rulers how to play various musical instruments early on to develop their thinking ability and develop a strong sense of harmony with the idea that they would become better leaders/rulers as a result.

You can't tell a person's intelligence based on their musical tastes, but you can definitely tell how shallow they are.

:ehh:

That's not a bad point. Even Ke$ha admitted that she didn't listen to her own music for that reason. She also got a 1410 on her SATs (using the old model) so I guess there is at least a correlation there.
