Do you think there is a relationship between a persons taste in music & intelligence?

i can agree with that.... i guess i just feel like it's still saying relatively the same thing about certain kinds of music and the listeners they attract. :manny:

:ehh: fair enough

I just don't think it can be cited as proof because of how loosely done it is (with zero individual people as data points)

And the way it's done probably exaggerates the spreads as well

it's especially unfair to Lil Wayne who makes the top 10 at virtually every HBCU, random state school, and community college and gets his average score lowered because of it

Lil Wayne is popular everywhere he's just not gonna beat out Radiohead in popularity at a top 20 college

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
Your brain is an organic computer and streaming nothing but garbage non stop has to have some kind of affect. Do you want your son/daughter listening to this shyt when they're 5 years old, or would classical or at the very least positive music be better? Most of rap/hip hop is straight trash, yeah it's catchy when you're in the club or gym, but who honestly sits around with some headphones on during their down time listening Waka.

It's funny, we have the most destructive form of music as a whole, and look where we are as a community :mjpls: No correlation there either?

You are basically saying that those who listen to Lil Wayne have low SAT scores.

No :comeon:

The methodology is too flawed to make judgements

Do you realize they have no individual data points, but instead used Facebook likes and average SAT stats to make their chart :rudy:

What exactly is his point?

all this "research" he did shows that he found people who scored relatively high/low on a standardized test listened to a specific person.

and from what this chart says, the gap between rap and classical music isn't much.

Besides, that Mozart effect shyt has never been proven to make you smarter...a dumb nikka can listen to Mozart all day long, and not become smart, and a Smart person isn't gonna turn dumb cause they listen to Gucci all the time.

The data does not say that listening to Mozart will make you smarter. It shows that those who naturally gravitate to Mozart generally score higher on the SAT. That is the difference.

I do not believe that SAT scores are accurate measures of intelligence, because like I said before, there are many different types of intelligence. It depends on what definition you choose to go by. BUT I do believe that the researcher has a point.

I am not sure why people are making this into a genre argument. All genres of music have their good and bad. This is not an argument about rap vs classical. I don't think anyone is arguing whether people who listen to rap are stupid, because that is obviously false. It is about the particular artists, songs and lyrics.

it's like 1+1 = 2 but people don't see the correlation :why:
i think a lot of them just don't WANT to because they themselves like to indulge in said music without having to answer questions about "social responsiblity". same with the artist that make the crap.

This type of methodology is used all the time in research. The data is not as flawed as you think but its definitely not anywhere close to perfect. But I do believe that it lacks validity. Number of individuals studied and frequency should have been included as well as some other things.

My point is that the researcher has a point that there is a relationship between music and intelligence. It is not about whether his study is 100% accurate or not.

let's pick a random top 20 school in the study
Williams College
only 8% black
so I doubt a rapper could make it in the top 10 there

a lot of the places where someone like Lil Wayne is listed are HBCU's which are almost all black

also it might be the case that kids at the higher ranked places pick what artists to like on Facebook more strategically so they can be hipsters or whatever

if you're in an elitist environment you might not want to have Gucci Mane and Future and all that on your Facebook even if you liked their music

There are zero individuals studied, they just went off the top 10 artists on each college's Facebook network and matched them to their average SAT scores :what:

This isn't real/serious research and the guy who made it isn't pretending that is is :what:

He is a hacker. I don't expect to take his info at 100% value. Like I said before, I posted that to show that there is a relationship. Other studies have also confirmed this. There is a definite relationship and we are unwilling to acknowledge that.
